Anyone should be able to play games on their TVs without needing a console, controller, account sign-up, or subscription fee. That's the future we're building at Samsung Electronics, and it's great to see it covered by VentureBeat at Summer Games Fest!Check out the article to read about our partnership with Return Entertainment and our newly launched in-house daily habit quiz game The Six. We're putting in the work to make play experiences natively available on TVs for as wide an audience as possible - the future is bright!featuring Mike Lucero, Vesa Jutila, and Samsung Electronics America :)#gaming #gamedev #videogames #samsung

Zynga's Star Wars: Hunters is finally out - and topping Supercell's Squad Buster's as the top game on the US charts right now!I remember playing early builds of Hunters when I worked at Zynga. Huge congrats to the team for finally shipping this ambitious title. It's a first for the company in so many ways: first console game, first Unreal Engine game, and I believe both the first shooter and first Disney licensed product. Here's a video of my second match. Gameplay-wise, it's a class-based arena shooter; very accessible, with short matches and easily understandable Hunter ults and map-based powerups. One of the challenges with realtime PvP titles like this in the Star Wars universe is balancing ranged with melee/lightsaber combat. Some Hunters can only attack at range, while it seems most melee-focused classes also feature 1-2 ranged attacks.Shipping simultaneously on Apple, Google Play, and Nintendo Switch is impressive. Homa is the only other mobile publisher I can think that has started to ship on Switch, but Hunters is a more core genre. I expect the game to find a fit on PC and other consoles in 2025 if it maintains momentum post-launch.Other quick thoughts:- monetization seems focused around the Arena Pass (the very first feature introduced, lol), buying new Hunters earlier than standard progression, and cosmetics- I'll be curious to see how Hunters performs on Twitch and whether Zynga is using that as a marketing channel, which they do not have experience doing. Maybe Take-Two Interactive is helping?- Zynga has done PvP (both turn-based and realtime) forever; but the player liquidity required for a match-based 5v5 game is unique and will test both the UA, matchmaking, and product retention functions in new ways#gaming #mobilegames #starwars #gamedev #videogames

Stellar Blade - April’s top selling premium game - is a fascinating product.📱Developer SHIFTUP is a Korean studio that also created Goddess of Victory: Nikke, one of today’s top mobile games. It generated $70M in its first month! 💵 Nikke is published by Tencent Games international label Level Infinite, and is one of the company’s top performers, with several callouts in Tencent’s latest earnings report.🎮 Stellar Blade, meanwhile, is a single-player Sony PlayStation exclusive. It’s SHIFTUP’s first console title, and what an enormous success it’s been: selling 1M units in its first 24 hours and hitting an 81 Metacritic.‼️The ability for a studio to have concurrent hit titles on both mobile and console is incredibly rare and very impressive.🇰🇷🇨🇳🇯🇵And interestingly, it’s a story that brings together an independent Korean studio with the industry’s biggest conglomerates from China and Japan.#gaming #gamedev #mobilegames #playstatiom

Tencent and NetEase are entering the licensed sports games market, as they both launch PvP basketball titles within a few months of each other 🏀In my latest article for Naavik, I look at what this means for the Chinese publishers’ portfolio strategies, and how sports licensing in games is undergoing major changes. 🌏Long a sector dominated by Electronic Arts (EA) and 2K (Take-Two Interactive) with licenses from major pro leagues like the National Football League (NFL), the landscape is becoming more dynamic as players unions, individual athletes, and college and women’s sports offer new licensing opportunities on new platforms. ⚽️🏈🎾⚾️🥎🏐🏒#gaming #sports #mobilegames #licensing #gamedevCheck it out and let me know what you think!

Some amazing words from Gizmodo.com about our work on Samsung Gaming Hub:"Gaming Hub is the Best Thing About Samsung TVs“The Gaming Hub menu is where you’ll find everything related to your gaming experience, and it’s quite a bit. It includes services like [our beloved content partners] Microsoft Game Pass and NVIDIA GeForce Now front and center and a few lesser-known services like Blacknut."It’s all very subtle, but there are a number of quality-of-life features for those with a gamer bent that make console gaming easy and enjoyable. It’s something when a TV can excite me with its menu options, but the latest Samsung TVs are great for gaming simply because they do your hard work."Samsung ElectronicsSamsung Electronics America#gaming #cloudgaming #tv #connectedtv #entertainment

Had the privilege of speaking to PocketGamer.biz about my perspective on Supercell's upcoming Squad Busters! This launch is obviously a massive moment for Supercell - their first full game release in 6 years, I think - but will have ripple effects throughout the wider mobile gaming consumer market and supply chains. Thanks to Paige Cook for this opportunity, and glad to share my thoughts alongside 🦩 Matej Lancaric (a UA legend), Stuart D., and Wills Spangler.#gaming #mobilegaming #useracquisition #gamedev #mobilegames
