Breuning -- Our beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, Margaret Rose Coyne Breuning died Monday, May 28, 2001 in a tragic rafting accident on the Rio Grande River in New Mexico. She was born on December 26, 1943 in Tacoma, WA. She is preceded in death by her parents, John Patrick and Rose Margaret Coyne; and her brother, John Carlin Coyne. She is survived by her loving husband, Carl Ulrich Breuning; and her daughters, Anne-Lise Aurora and Deirdre Felicia Breuning, all residents of La Estaca, NM; her sisters, Mary Sue Coyne of San Rafael, CA and Teresa Ann Smith of Montara, CA; her brothers, Patrick James Coyne of Hillsborough, CA, Philip Michael Coyne of San Mateo, CA, and Edmund Francis Coyne of Sun Valley, ID; her friend, Geneva Peo, Richmond, CA; her Godchildren, John Daniel Patterson, Margaret LaMotte, David Alexander Chamberlain, Leah Divine Tischler, Anna River Daeuble; and countless relatives and friends. After graduating from Notre Dame High School in Belmont, CA, Peggy graduated from UC Berkeley Magna Cum Laude. She went on to earn a Ph.D. in Art History at the University of Rome and remained a supporter of the arts throughout her life. She taught in Berkeley before being swept off her feet by a most dashing Viking, Carl Breuning. They moved to Northern New Mexico, where they built a dragon house and raised two beautiful daughters. Throughout her 29 years in La Estaca, NM, she worked tirelessly to preserve the land, history and heritage of her cherished community, all the while true to her Irish roots. She started La Escuelita, a preschool, in her own kitchen. She was proud to be Majordomo of La Capilla de San Francisco in La Estaca. She published a book on the history of Estaca with a larger aim of"boosting the cultural immune system" of communities across Northern NM. One of her greater accomplishments was working with Los Vecinos in passing crucial zoning laws to protect rural communities. She was also a member of the Women's Council, the New Moon Group and the Panchitas. Peggy was a healer, world traveler and accomplished poet. She was an inspiration and a joy as she passionately devoured each life experience. Her unstoppable determination and vitality revealed her deep understanding of the power of love. A Rosary will be recited on Monday, June 4, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at DeVargas Funeral Home, 623 North Railroad Avenue, Espanola, NM (505) 741-7477. On Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at 5:00 p.m. we welcome all to her home for a Memorial Service to celebrate Peggy's extraordinary life. In addition, there will be a Memorial Mass held in her honor at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Burlingame, CA on Saturday, June 9, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Peggy, you are our fiery star and we will never forget you as you blaze on ahead.

Snipes -- Webb Snipes, 76, a life long resident of NM, died at home after a brief illness on Wednesday, May 30, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Joy Snipes of Lemitar, NM; sons, Perry Snipes and wife, Norma, Les Snipes and wife, Cheri, all of Albuquerque, NM; step daughter, Brenda Ray and husband, Garland; stepson, Kent Gray and wife, Shirley, of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Donovan, Brent, Jodi, James and Shalene; four step-grandchildren, Jason, Mathew, Natasha and Breanna; four great-grandchildren, Dawson, Peri Jo, Deric and Tanner; and sister, Nannie Ruth Claunch. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Nanny Snipes and by his first wife, Ora Lee Snipes. Mr. Snipes was a member of Full Gospel Businessmens Fellowship, Cowboys for Christ and attended First Assembly of God of Polvadera. He was retired from the horse and trailer business and farmed the last years of his life. Mr. Snipes was loved by his family and friends and all will miss him very dearly. Services will be held Saturday, June 2, 2001, 1:00 p.m. at Valley Christian Church, 2850 Gun Club Road, SW, with Reverend Kent Gray and Reverend David Eggers officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Eddie Gutierrez, Dick Ritter, Blaine Muncy, Roy Stidham, Duane Gibson and Joe Daley. Honorary pallbearers will be Leo Rizzo, Archie Gibson, Leroy Gibson, Roy Gates, Clem Dickson and Bill Owens. Jaramillo -- David W. Jaramillo, USAF Ret., 45, passed away in Denver, Colorado May 27, 2001. He was a native New Mexican, living in Jemez and Albuquerque. David retired from the Air Force after serving 22 years. He is survived by his wife, Kimberly Jaramillo; children, David Jaramillo, Anthony Jaramillo, Loretta Jaramillo, Jason Jaramillo, Ashleigh Jaramillo, Andrew Jaramillo, and Kevin Jaramillo; parents, Melecio and Bessie Jaramillo; mothers-in-law, Nancy and husband, Ron, and Sandy Edwards; sisters, Rosemary Chavez and husband, Frank, Ida Merhege and husband, John, Lisa Russo, and Paula Leyba. Special uncle, Lambert Jaramillo; special aunts, Connie Jaramillo, Helen Jaramillo, numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends who loved and will miss him. Services will be held at Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe) Catholic Church in Canon, NM. A rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2001. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jose and Carmelita Luna, and is survived by his beloved Sugie Carla, companion of 15 years; sons, David, Joe Rey, and Sonny Rey; first wife, Virginia; and their children, Troy and wife, Maria Tapia, Louie, Lisa, and Chris Ann; grandchildren; Krissinda, Robert, Alexis and Joseph; parents, Louis and Isabel Bessie; beloved sister, Cecilia Romero and husband, Harry; nephews, Bryan, Harry Romero and wife, Shannon and three daughters; niece, Jacquelynn Gomez and daughter. His love for people showed through his passion for sports, tournaments and his work with the needy. He umpired many girls and boys little league games and ball games for the elderly. Severo loved barbequing for his family. He had many good friends and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco Dr. SW. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2001. Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2001. Heeter -- Agnes T. Wikel Heeter, 93, a resident of Albuquerque for 50 years, died Thursday, May 24, 2001. She is survived by her daughter, Patricia McCormack and husband, Joseph of Woodbridge, VA; granddaughters, Heather McHugh and husband, John of Manassas, VA and Ashley McCormack of Woodbridge, VA. Agnes was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Wikel; and her second husband, Harold Heeter. She was a member of D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, 8:30 a.m., at Our Lady of the Annunciation Catholic Church, 2621 Vermont NE, with Father Sam Falbo, Celebrant. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Pallbearers will be Joseph McCormack, John McHugh, David Clark, Robert Bohnlein, Mel Cooper and Jerry Betts. Salazar -- Margaret "Grandma Margaret" Salazar, 88, peacefully passed on from this earth to her heavenly home on Friday, May 25, 2001. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Margaret owned and operated Tiny Tots Cottage for 40 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and the casinos. She is preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Salazar; her parents, Stanislado and Barbarita Garcia; one sister, Lupe Chavez; and one brother, Salomon Garcia. Margaret is survived by her four children, Danny Salazar and wife, Bernice; Margaret Duenas and husband, Vernon; Barbara Aragon and husband, Eddie; and Adela Griego and husband, David; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Eva Glidewell and husband, Marvin. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, and many, many friends. A Viewing will be held on Wednesday, 5:30pm followed by a Rosary at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of Belen Church. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 10:00 am at Our Lady of Belen with interment in the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Duenas, Dennis Salazar, Sean Walker, Manuel Aragon, David Griego, and Joseph Jaramillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dolores Ruiz, Ramona Silva, and Victoria Silva. Sparks -- Robert "Pops" Sparks, Sr., age 86, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away May 24, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Adia Mae Sparks of Albuquerque; sons, Robert Sparks, Jr. and R.L. Sparks, both of Albuquerque, and Dave Corley, Jr. and Vernon Ray Corley, both of California; daughters, Delores Corley, Doris Evans and Vera Mae Hill, all of California and Ernestine Holman of Albuquerque; sister, Ivery Powdrill of Albuquerque; sisters-in-law, Ada Lee Sparks of Albuquerque and Nora Lee Williams of California; and numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; and three Godchildren. Grandjean -- Mary Alice Grandjean, 73, passed away on Friday, May 25, 2001 in Lemitar, NM. She was born July 24, 1927 to Gilbert H. and Alice (Hicks) Hawkinson in Amarillo, TX. Mary taught school for over 40 years and began her teaching career in the late 50's in Guam. She took a brief break from teaching when the family moved to London, England. She resumed teaching in Vallejo, CA and later moved to Kahuku High School on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii. She taught there for many years and was especially proud of being the student government advisor and under her direction the students lobbied the State Legislature for a new gym. A move to San Francisco began her career with Catholic schools and her final years were spent teaching kindergarten at St. Joseph's School in Auburn, CA. She taught every grade from K through 12 and had a true teaching vocation. She was the kind of teacher who was a positive influence on the lives of so many young people. Her favorite things in her life were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her students. She was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, sister and aunt. She'll be remembered as a person who died with dignity and was an inspiration to many. A son, Stephen Grandjean, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, David Grandjean of San Jose, CA; daughter, Valerie Moore and husband, Orville of Lemitar, NM; sisters, Bette Faye Haakon of Roseburg, OR, Frances Cosby of Orangevale, CA and Florence Norlander of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren, Toby Grandjean of Santee, CA, Crockett Moore of Austin, TX and Leanne Duree of Algodones, NM; great-grandchildren, Taylor Duree, Joshua Dennison, Kaitlin Duree and Trystin Grandjean. A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at the San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lemitar Catholic Church with Father Domingo Gumpal as Celebrant.
